Bransgroves Lawyers was founded over 20 years ago in November 2001 by Matthew Bransgrove. Matthew Bransgrove is the co-author of the Lexis Nexis textbook Essential Guide to Mortgage Law in Australia and the sole author of the Lexis Nexis textbook Avoiding Mortgage Fraud in Australia.

For the first half of the 2000s we specialised in acting on mortgage advances and mortgage enforcement for private lenders, balance sheet lenders and retail mortgage funds. During this time construction finance and commercial mortgages formed the bulk of our practice. Kate Cooper, our Managing Partner, joined the firm in 2006.

In the second half of the 2000s, we came to the attention of larger institutional lenders, who began to brief us on their more complex mortgage advances, mortgage enforcement as well as negligent valuer and quantity surveyor cases.

In the wake of the Global Financial Crisis we focussed on negligent valuer cases and mortgage origination disputes. The fallout from the Global Financial Crisis slowly receded and was replaced by a resurgent commercial mortgage market which has now lasted for over a 15 years.

Currently approximately 90% of our work is mortgage advances, variation and discharges, with the balance being mortgage-related litigation.
