# Step 6 – Service

Process › Enforcement Process › Step 6 – Service

Once the possession proceedings have been filed with the court we instruct process servers to serve the owner of the security (who may be either the borrower or guarantor). They are usually served at home or work (which may or may not be the security).

As well as serving the owner of the security the occupier of the property also needs to be served with a copy of the court documents. This is how tenants learn that they are likely to be evicted.
